Gainesville Police arrested a local man Tuesday afternoon after they said he stole a Canon digital camera and a custom Huffy bicycle.

At about 2:50 p.m. on March 26, Samuel Caraballo, 34, pawned a digital camera worth about $150 at Oaks Pawn South for $25, according to a police report.

About two days before he sold the camera, Caraballo also stole a Huffy bicycle built by the man who owned it, according to a police report. It was worth about $10.

Caraballo lived with the man in his apartment for a few weeks when the camera was stolen. The man told police his camera was stolen from a cabinet in the bedroom, according to the report.

When Caraballo left the man’s apartment, he left behind a receipt for the pawn transaction, according to the report.

Soon after the bike was stolen, the man saw it at a neighbor’s house with Caraballo, who told the man he found it at Winn-Dixie, according to the report. After his arrest, Caraballo told police the man gave him the bike after he found it at Pinetree Garden Apartments.

Police arrested Caraballo on charges for fraud and dealing in stolen property, along with two charges for burglary and two for larceny.

Authorities took him to the Alachua County Jail where, as of press time, he remains in lieu of a $270,000 bond.
