If Netflix and chill just isn’t the same when there’s green beer and Jameson specials in every corner of town, here’s a drinking game for those of you who aren’t planning on staying in on St. Patty’s Day. In honor of the holiday, the Avenue is providing you with your own “sign night.” Yes, if you’re reading this, you’ve officially turned 21 all over again.

Getting back into the swing of things after a week off is usually extremely difficult. It’s hard to wake up for those 7:25 a.m. classes, pull all-nighters and eat Top Ramen after a week of sleeping in until noon, lounging by the pool or beach and eating home-cooked meals — that is, if you went home.

Congratulations, you have a Valentine! No matter if it’s a familiar face or a new flame, it’s hard not to take advantage of the holiday and be a little more lovey-dovey with your cherie amour than usual. As anti-consumerist as you may be, admit it: You’re kind of excited. This Valentine’s Day, skip TGI Fridays and find some fun, unconventional plans to do with your Valentine. Here are a few suggestions on making this year’s V-Day a little less cheesy and a little more memorable.

The Coen brothers’ newest feature “Hail, Caesar!” opened in theaters last weekend, and if box office numbers are any indication, audiences gave it a big “Hail, no!” With the lowest turnout ever of the siblings’ career, the comedy only raked in about $11.4 million in spite of its recent critical acclaim. Perhaps it’s because many of the advertisements didn’t map out a clear plot. Spoiler: There is no clear plot.

Dear Mediocre,

Like so many college students with a Netflix subscription and a tendency to procrastinate, I devoured all 10 episodes of “Making a Murderer” within the course of four days. The hype surrounding the series was unavoidable, and after a fervent recommendation from a close friend, I happily shirked all responsibilities and dove in. As a courtesy spoiler alert, anyone who has exhibited the self-control to avoid the show and doesn’t want to know how it ends, avert your eyes.

Marvel fans rejoice: There’s a new heroine in town and she’s hardcore. Jessica Jones is the most recent character to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a 13-episode series on Netflix, released Nov. 20. The series follows the same nitty-gritty, dark essence the first Netflix-Marvel collaboration “Daredevil” was filmed in, and just like the former, “Jessica Jones” does not disappoint.

In January 2014, I walked into the Alligator office for its open house. I was a sophomore at the time, and I went straight to the then-opinions editor with, "I’d like to write a sex column."

On any given Friday, this would be the space where we make a witty aside or use a semi-obscure pop-cultural reference to introduce that week’s edition of Darts & Laurels. Well, we hate to disappoint, but we have nothing of the sort this week. Nothing. Zilch. Nada. Just letters, words and sentences to fill up space until we get to the main attraction…which is Darts & Laurels. Yup.

Similar to shows like "The Office" and "Parks and Recreation," "30 Rock" is one of my all-time favorite sitcoms, and it is definitely binge-worthy.

When I was deciding my career as a little girl, full of blind naiveté and enthusiasm for a world that seemed so clearly ready to catapult me to stardom, there were a lot of options on the list. My aspirations ranged from ballerina to doctor to orange-truck driver over the years, but there was one job that kept coming up in the mix, no matter how many years passed: I wanted to be a writer.

James Franco. Seth Rogen. Jason Segel. Linda Cardellini. Busy Philips. No, this isn’t the cast to a Pineapple Express sequel. It’s the cast of the cult classic TV series "Freaks and Geeks," and it’s this week’s drinking game.

The countercultural revolution of the ‘60s coincided with remarkable advancements in recording and broadcast technology. With the two occurring in tandem, it became easier than ever for fanbases to develop around adored figures in pop culture. This proved to be a boon for stand-up comedians who, given the transgressive era they operated in, gained notoriety among young people for putting truth to power — in other words, giving voice to and reflecting the fears, concerns and sensibilities of young people. In short, they called it as they saw it.
