Jordan Cronkrite (32) takes a break from Florida's Spring practice while running backs coach Tim Skipper (middle) watches Mark Thompson (24) run drills. The Gators practiced for two hours at the Sanders Practice Fields on March 30.

Jordan Cronkrite is leaving the Florida football program.

The second-year running back was granted permission by UF this week to start looking at transfer destinations, as first reported by 247Sports.

"We wish Jordan nothing but the best,” coach Jim McElwain said in a written statement, “and will do everything we can to support and assist him and help him get what he wants."

Cronkrite rushed for 145 yards and a touchdown on 31 carries in the 2016 campaign, placing him fourth on the running back depth chart.

He was touted as the leader of the four-man running back group coming out of preseason camp, but a preseason injury set him back, and he was never able to reclaim the job.

His departure leaves the Gators with three scholarship players returning at the running back position: current sophomore Jordan Scarlett, freshman Lamical Perine and junior Mark Thompson.

All three players got at least twice as many carries as Cronkrite this season.

Cronkrite also finished fourth on the team in rushing in his freshman campaign, carrying the ball 44 times for 157 yards and three touchdowns.

The former U.S. Army All-American’s transfer destination is unknown.
