Offensive coordinator Kurt Roper addresses the media during his introductory press conference on Jan. 13. Four-star quarterback Sheriron Jones, who was recruited by Roper, committed to Florida on Sunday.

Florida landed its 2015 quarterback. Four-star prospect Sheriron Jones, out of Moreno Valley (Calif.) Rancho Valley High School, verbally committed to Florida on Sunday, as first reported by Rivals.com.

The commitment comes less than 24 hours after Jones was on campus for Will Muschamp’s annual high school football camp over the weekend.

Jones, the 6-2 189 pound dual-threat prospect, hold offers from fellow Southeastern Conference schools including Georgia, Tennessee and Texas A&M. Offers closer to home include USC, UCLA and Washington.

Jones runs Rancho Verde’s offense from the shotgun, which will make the transition to offensive coordinator Kurt Roper’s scheme easier. He can scramble for positive yardage when he’s forced out of the pocket, too.

UF offensive tackle commit Tyler Jordan, who was on campus Saturday, chatted with Jones while watching camp. Jordan was impressed with what he saw from the No. 10-ranked dual-threat quarterback in the country.

“He has a strong arm and can extend plays with his feet if he needed to,” Jordan said. “He’s a good person, too.”

Florida’s quarterback position could be stacked if Jones’ commitment sticks. The depth chart heading into 2014 includes redshirt junior Jeff Driskel, sophomore Skyler Mornhinweg, early enrollee Will Grier and incoming freshman Treon Harris.
