Gainesville’s fashion events may have only lasted one week, but “Fashion Star” sets trends every Friday at 8 p.m. on NBC.

Each week, twelve designers from around the world create a unique clothing item and send it down the runway. They are coached through this process by pop star and shoe designer Jessica Simpson; socialite and fashionista Nicole Richie; and menswear megastar John Varvatos.

Plenty of other fashion competitions exist on television, often choosing the best winner every week before sending one loser home. However, “Fashion Star” is unique in the fact that it is not a zero-sum game.

The contestants compete to have their clothes bought by three of the world’s biggest retailers including Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue and Express.

If an item receives an offer, it will be sold by the store. If an item does not sell, the designer is put at risk for elimination from the competition.

The last designer standing will have an exclusive collection in all three of the buyers’ stores nationwide.

But you don’t have to wait until this season’s winner is announced to wear your favorite pieces from the show. In fact, all of the winning pieces are available on the retailers’ websites right after the credits roll. You’ll have to move fast though because the designs often sell out within hours of being released.

This week, all of the designers made a sale, and their clothes are available online.

Macy’s is selling Garrett and JesseRay’s feminine polo as well as Brandon and Cassandra’s menswear collaboration. Amber’s blouse, Daniel’s top and Johana’s pencil skirt are available at Saks Fifth Avenue. Plus, Express has Silvia’s soft modern pant and Hunter’s snap pencil skirt.

Tune in next tomorrow night as the six remaining designers face-off for a spot in the top five.
