An article in the Sept. 22 edition of the Alligator incorrectly reported that the new garbage pick-up schedule for Alachua County will begin Oct. 1. The new contract begins Oct. 1, but the date to start four-day collection is Nov. 1.
The article also reported that the changes will not result in a cost increase for residents. The new contract is actually 8.7 percent higher than this year's amount.
The article also stated that under the current contract different companies manage the cities' waste. Only one hauler is allowed to provide residential curbside collection under both the current and new contracts.
