The Supervillains, an Orlando-based ska and reggae band that's been around since 1998, will be playing at Common Grounds with local opening acts Cardboard Paradise, Half Track and rapper DP on Thursday. The four members of the Supervillains packed the house on its last visit to Common Grounds and are predicted to do it all over again tonight.

We caught up briefly with Dom, the Supervillains' drummer and singer, who couldn't be more pumped to play in Gainesville again.

"Because of that Gainesville green!" Dom said, "No, but really it's a fun place with a bunch of chill people, and everyone always knows how to get down at a show."

Dom also shed some light on what we expect from their triumphant return.

"Jokes and jokes and jokes and jokes," said Dom, "and some music too."

Two of the opening acts, Half Track and DP, have been looking forward to playing this show with the Supervillains for months now.

"It was definitely one of the biggest crowds we've ever played to," said Chris Storey, Half Track's keyboardist and backup guitarist. "The Supervillains got the crowd going nuts. They brought ton of dancing, a ton of energy, and they are just a fun band to watch become so big in our music genre."

Drawing inspiration from the Supervillains and other giants in reggae and hip-hop, DP is starting to get his music out across the state and even the country. "I've been going on tour and going out of town a lot to promote my new album ‘Bar Tab Blues,'" DP explained. "And the reaction to the album so far has been really positive. [Bar Tab Blues] really goes back to the hip-hop genre by moving away from samples and putting in some serious beats and more musical elements. Fans can buy it at my website (www.officialdp.com)." Half Track also has a new CD out, the EP "Hands Free and Shirtless."

Doors for the show will open at 8:00 p.m., and the first band will go on 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 with a $2 entrance fee for those under 21 and are available at Common Grounds, High Tides and Hear Again CDs & DVDs.
