The power went out at the Lakeside Residential Complex on Radio Road late Wednesday night.

At about 9:10 p.m., all the lights at Lakeside and at Southwest Recreation Center went out, according to Jon Keen, a Lakeside resident assistant.

Officials told Keen and other resident assistants that a transformer blew up or shorted out, causing the electric outage, Keen said.

As a result of the outage, University Police Department officers had to come to the residence hall to help a student out of an apartment, Keen said.

At about 11 p.m., the electricity came back on.

Darryl Ojeda, a UF freshman living at Lakeside, said one of the residents was in the bathroom when the electricity went off, and the student finished showering even without lights.

Another student was working on a writing assignment, but the electricity outage prevented her from working until the lights came back on, Ojeda said.

Although there were no lights in the rooms, generators were able to start up some of the hallway lights, Keen said.

And the Internet never went out, according to Ojeda.
