Sesame Street takes stage at O’Connell Center next week

Elmo, Big Bird and Cookie Monster are spending a couple of days in Gainesville next week.

A Broadway-style production of Sesame Street will be performed at the O'Connell Center at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Tuesday and at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Ticket prices range from $30 for floor and lower-level seats to $13 for upper-level seats.

The show has been coming to the O'Connell Center almost every year for the past 25 years, said Renee Musson, associate director of the O'Connell Center.

Sesame Street rents the O'Connell Center for its performances, which are geared toward the Gainesville community.

The O'Connell Center director was not available to comment on the rental price at press time.

Only a small percentage of the audience members are UF students, and most students bring a younger family member, Musson said.

Exploratory liberal arts sophomore Anthony Cardona thinks students should consider seeing the production.

"Why not see it? It's shaped thousands of childhoods," Cardona said. "Everyone would love to revisit that."
