What many fans and analysts alike expected to be a lopsided matchup between the Florida Gators and the No. 8 Tennessee Volunteers turned into a cutthroat contest that came down to the wire. Just three weeks ago, the Florida football program was seemingly on the brink of a lost season. Boos rained down across Ben Hill Griffin Stadium following UF’s 33-20 loss to Texas A&M, rumors emerged that Florida boosters secured enough money to fund head coach Billy Napier’s buyout and the team’s locker room was all but dead silent following the game.
Setting the tone was Florida’s defense, giving up just three points in the first half and 13 in the game, breaking tendencies that had haunted them through the first four games of the season.
