Going into the series finale between Florida and Mississippi State, the Gators had scored 24 runs on 28 hits in the first two games of the weekend. Florida’s strong singles showing in a 4-2 comeback win over Arkansas propelled it to the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament, reminding everyone just how dangerous the Gators can be. UF didn’t take time for a victory lap, staying hungry for more in a week of single elimination conference play. After losing to South Carolina 4-1 to end the regular season, Florida (14-11, 8-6 SEC) returned to Columbia to test its luck against No. 3 seed South Carolina in a Friday night contest, hoping to flip the script against the steamrolling Gamecocks.

After the No. 8 Florida Gators surrendered their four-run lead to the No. 22 Alabama Crimson Tide in the top of the fourth inning, they looked to respond. Following back-to-back walks, senior center fielder Kendra Falby hit a ground-ball RBI single to restore the lead for Florida.
