Country music artist Lee Greenwood will perform tonight during the annual President’s Gala at Santa Fe College.

The dinner, which will be held at the Fine Arts Hall, located at 3000 NW 83rd St., will begin at 6 p.m. Greenwood is scheduled to perform in the Grand Hall at 8:30 p.m.

The President’s Dinner is celebrated each year for private donors, but this year it will be open to the public, said SFC President Jackson Sasser.

The dinner will also celebrate SFC’s accomplishment of being one of the top 10 community colleges in the nation, which was announced in September.

This year’s theme will be a tribute to honor veterans. Sasser said it was an event he wanted all Gainesville residents to participate in.

“We also want the community to be present this year to help pay tribute to our student veterans who have served our country, as they hold a high honor at our college,” he said.

Sasser said SFC invited Greenwood to perform in hopes of bringing more people to the event.

The 70-year-old singer has put out more than 20 albums and has had 35 singles on the Billboard country music charts.

“Greenwood is known for his patriotism, so I do believe he was a good choice for this event,” Sasser said.

Clifton Roberts, a 31-year-old SFC graphic design student and president of the SFC Collegiate Veterans Society, said he’s excited the event will be a tribute to veterans, especially those who study at SFC.

“Ever since coming to Santa Fe, I have never felt more welcomed as a veteran with all the attention that is given to us,” he said.

Tickets to the concert range from $50 to $75. For the dinner and VIP seating at the show, tickets will cost $200. Tickets are available at the SFC Box Office, by calling 352-395-4181 or can be purchased online.
