University Police is investigating the death of a UF student that occurred in Mallory Hall on Wednesday morning.

Shortly after 11 a.m., University Police were called to a single room on the second floor of the building. University Police spokesman Maj. Brad Barber confirmed the death of the student, who police hadn’t named as of press time. Barber said no foul play is suspected. Police are still investigating the incident.

Dave Kratzer, vice president for student affairs, sent an email to UF housing residents informing them of the student’s death. According to the email, there was no crime, and no other students were endangered.

Residents on the floor said maintenance staffers were visiting rooms on the floor, knocking on doors to check and change air conditioning vents. Maintenance remained in front of one door, knocking repeatedly before entering, they said. Police were called soon after.

Residents said two rooms on the floor were blocked off by tape while police investigated. University personnel, police and medical investigators remained at the dorm for more than an hour speaking with residents and residence hall staff.

As of press time, no official report had been released with details about the incident.
