At UF, grocery shopping is often done at one of the many P.O.D. Markets on campus. Many students don’t spare a thought about the cost of their shopping sprees, and those who do often write off the obvious overcharging as an acceptable price for convenience. I suspected, however, that the difference could not be so miniscule, and after employing some expert espionage, infiltrating various P.O.D. Growing up, I was what my parents called an adventurous eater. Although that can mean many different things depending on how you define adventurous, all you need to know is that by the time I was 8, while the majority of my classmates and friends swore by the kids menu, my wish was to go out for sushi.

The Krishna lunch you hold in your sweaty palms is sacred. It’s a time-honored tradition for you. Walking over to the limited shade on Plaza of the Americas, you cross your legs and sit in the grass. The smell of vegan goodness wafts up from your plate. The sunshine is bright but not unpleasant, illuminating everything including your lunch in a warm Floridian glow. “What a nice day it is,” you think to yourself as you plunge a plastic fork into a small mound of Halva. The chirping of birds, melodic chanting and acoustic guitar drift in the air. Laughs and cheers from students practicing on a slackline punctuate your sunny afternoon. The atmosphere around you is filled with harmony, peace, love and good food.

When I think of pizza, I usually picture a traditional Neapolitan, an authentic Italian entrée made with tomato and fresh mozzarella. However, third-generation pizza maker Jonathan “Jon” Mora challenged everything I thought I knew about what can and can’t go on pies. This causal hole-in-the-wall pizzeria is where Mora is constantly creating new pizza dishes with unique ingredients. If you’re in the mood to try something new, check out Mora NY Pizza, at 1220 W. University Ave.

I have recently come across a community of people who have a unique view about diets and veganism. These people believe that consuming a more plant-based diet is beneficial to the environment and our bodies, but they are open to making exceptions in times of inconvenience.
