When it comes to high school football recruiting, there is no such thing as an offseason. The 2014 session of Will Muschamp’s football camps kicked off Friday afternoon, featuring some of the best high school football players from across the state.

Friday evening was the 7-on-7 tournament portion of the camp—which featured teams from schools including Booker T. Washington, Tampa Tech, Armwood, Bucholtz and more.

Booker T. — the alma mater of wide receiver Quinton Dunbar and true freshman Treon Harris — had a team that included 2015 Florida wide receiver target Antonio Calloway.

Calloway, who currently has Florida as his leader, said that liking UF is nothing new.

“I always liked the school,” Calloway said. “Ever since Percy Harvin and Jeff Demps played here.”

Calloway also talked about his excitement with Kurt Roper’s new spread offense and how it utilizes receivers.

“It fits me well because I play the slot, and they can use me a lot,” he said.

Calloway adds that having Dunbar and Harris already at UF makes him “feel at home” in Gainesville. He also stated Friday that Miami is currently a close second to Florida and he said he would like to visit West Virginia, Arkansas and Ohio before the summer is over.

Calloway’s teammate, 2015 cornerback DaVante Davis, left the 7-on-7 session after receiving an offer from Florida on Friday. Davis currently holds offers from Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and several others.

Florida wide receiver target Deon Cain was in attendance Friday, despite verbally committing to Clemson last week. Cain, out of Tampa Tech, is a versatile prospect who played quarterback, wide receiver, cornerback and safety during 7 on 7 drills. UF coaches are still actively recruiting Cain despite his commitment to Clemson.

The camp will continue Saturday, and a number of Florida targets will be on hand including Moreno Valley (Calif.) Rancho Verde quarterback Sheriron Jones, Brentwood Ravenwood wide receiver Van Jefferson and offensive tackles Jalen Merrick from New Smyrna Beach (Fla.) and Montverde Academy’s Abdul Bello.

Three star 2015 cornerback Jalen Thompson will also be on hand participating on Saturday. Thompson originally had UF as his leader, but it has fallen behind Georgia as of Wednesday evening. Thompson intended to just watch the camp but decided to participate on Thursday evening.

Saturday afternoon’s practice will include a skill player camp. Continue to check back for updates throughout the weekend.
