Why are we paying ,40,000 to hear Alberto Gonzales speak? Accent claims it is bringing another "controversial speaker" like Janet Reno. Reno was controversial because of policy in the Elian Gonzalez and Waco raids. Alberto Gonzales is controversial because of his alleged illegal actions.
When Reno left her spot at the Department of Justice, she had Democratic defenders. When Gonzales left his post, he had no Republican defenders. To be controversial, there needs to be more than one side. In the case of Gonzales, there is almost unanimity in the opinion of his incompetence.
This will be the first speech by Gonzales since he resigned. Why? Because no one, not even far-right Republicans, thinks he is worth listening to. Accent needs to do more research and bring controversial speakers instead of the laughingstock of the political and legal communities.
