During the fall Student Government election, UF students again resoundingly expressed the opinion that the voting system at UF needs an overhaul. When 14 percent of the electorate trudges through the rain to the polls, it is time for a change.

Students For Online Voting offers UF that change. Instead of having to find a polling station and deal with the bureaucratic gridlock of the current system, students would be able to roll out of bed and vote on their computers. Increased participation could make SG more likely to respond to the needs of the student body and the administration more likely to listen to SG. It is all too easy for the administration to get its way when fewer than 7,000 students make their voices heard at the polls.

Online voting would offer an innovative way to make UF more democratic. We already take classes, register and pay fees online. Why shouldn't we vote there, too?
