A second suspect in a Sunday downtown shooting was arrested Wednesday morning.
Okpara Kehinde Nelson, 22, was arrested around 6 a.m. at the Scottish Inn on Southwest 13th Street, a release from the Alachua County Sheriff's Office stated.
Nelson is believed to be the shooter in the death of 22-year-old Andrew David Arosemena, the release stated.
Nelson has been charged with a first-degree felony, jail records stated.
Alachua County Warrants Investigator Broderick Robinson made the arrest.
Arosemena was the passenger of a maroon 2000 Lincoln Town Car and was waiting to get out of the Southwest Downtown Parking Garage Sunday morning when the incident occurred.
Arosemena yelled "hurry up" to a blue car blocking traffic.
Nelson and Antwan Maurice Maye, 25, had been speaking with the passengers of the blue car.
Taking offense to the statement, they walked over and pulled out handguns, the report stated.
While Maye and Arosemena were arguing, Nelson reached into the car and shot Arosemena in the head, the police report stated.
Nelson told Maye the shooting was an accident, the report stated.
Arosemena went to Shands at UF with life-threatening injuries and died Sunday afternoon.
Sheriff's office spokesman Sgt. Keith Faulk said the office contacted Nelson's relatives Tuesday to see if Nelson would turn himself in.
Robinson met with a family member of Nelson's at the motel to try to negotiate a surrender, Faulk said.
Nelson was found inside the room and arrested without incident, the release stated.
He refused to talk, Faulk said.
Investigators usually have forms of backup and don't serve warrants by themselves, he said.
Robinson was alone because he didn't expect Nelson to be there, Faulk said.
The small caliber handgun that may have been used in the shooting was found Tuesday in a lake in rural Gilchrist County.
"Now we are preparing the case for the state attorney," Gainesville Police Department spokesman Lt. Keith Kameg said.
Nelson is being held at the Alachua County Jail without bond, the police report stated.
