Shands employee OK after parking-garage kidnapping

A Shands employee was kidnapped from a UF parking garage Thursday night, placed in the trunk of a car and dropped off uninjured at a local Wal-Mart later that night, according to a University Police Department news release.

At 8:30 p.m., four men dressed in all black and wearing black ski masks grabbed the victim on the ramp of a parking a garage at Shands at UF, blindfolded him and tied his hands behind his back, the release stated.

He was placed in a car described as possibly being a 1999 black, four-door Nissan Altima.

The men then took the victim?s cell phone and sent text messages with it, according to the report.

The victim also said he was taken to a silent room in an unknown location.

The victim was dropped off unharmed at the Wal-Mart on 13th Street at 10 p.m.

The victim said he does not want to pursue the incident as a criminal matter, but UPD is interested in any related information, according to the report.

The news release reminded all students, staff, faculty and visitors to be aware of their surroundings at all times and to contact UPD if they see any suspicious activity.
