Today 22 states will hold primary elections or caucuses, but the delegates at stake won't all be decided the same way.

Most of the Democratic delegates will be awarded proportionately to the percentage of the vote each candidate earns.

Therefore, while 2,064 Democratic delegates are at stake today, it may be difficult for either Obama or Clinton to pull very far ahead.

In the Republican races, most delegates will be awarded in a winner-takes-all manner, based on the statewide votes.

This may wind up benefiting McCain, who has a strong following in larger states. A total of 1,081 delegates are up for grabs in the Republican race.
