GPD charges two people for using stolen credit cards

Gainesville Police charged two people Thursday in connection with the use of stolen credit cards.

Demetris Andurey Veal, 32, was arrested on suspicion of fraudulent use of a credit card and dealing in stolen property. Ernesta Michelle Graham, 38, was charged with two counts of fraudulent use of a credit card, according to a GPD report.

Gas was purchased twice with one of the cards at an Amoco gas station at 2222 N.E. Waldo Road.

A surveillance video from an ATM at Wachovia Bank at 1717 N.W. 13th St. showed a woman attempting to take out money on each card around midnight, according to the report.

Graham admitted to being the person in video, the report stated.

The cards were originally reported stolen Aug. 27 by Laura Mayol-Torres, 20, who was robbed at 1400 N.W. Fifth Ave., the report stated.

Neither Veal nor Graham is thought to be responsible for the actual robbery, which may be connected to five or six other muggings in the College Park area of Gainesville.

Veal also admitted to purchasing the credit cards and knowing they were stolen, the report stated. He said he picked up Graham and drove to the gas station and bank.

According to the report, two credit cards were purchased Aug. 28 at a gas station from an acquaintance of Veal's.

The identity of the acquaintance is not known, Hallett said.
