A man was arrested for possession of a controlled substance after spitting out a small bag of crack cocaine while talking to Gainesville Police Department officers.
Thursday night, GPD police officers arrived at 1030 S.E. Sixth Ave., the GPD arrest report stated.
According to the report, when officers made eye contact with a man sitting in a chair, he jumped up and ran around the corner of the house.
While following him, the officers saw him put something white into his mouth, the report stated.
According to the report, when the man stopped to talk to the officers, they found two crack pipes near his feet.
The officers suspected that the white item the man put in his mouth was crack, and they told him to spit it out, the report stated.
After 20 minutes of talking, the man spit the bag out, the contents later testing positive for cocaine.
According to the report, Carl Durrah, 31, told police that he was about to put cocaine into a bag when he saw the officers.
Durrah was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession and use of drug paraphernalia and resisting an officer without violence.
