Three-star OL Hounshell decommits

Make that three.

After losing two commitments — Plantation High four-star outside linebacker Ryan Shazier to Ohio State and Groveland South Lake High four-star defensive back Nick Waisome to Florida State — the Gators lost their third oral commitment since Urban Meyer resigned as head coach Monday night.

Kirtland (Ohio) Lake Catholic High offensive lineman Chase Hounshell announced via his Twitter account that he decommitted from Florida and committed to Notre Dame.

"I COMMITTED 2 THE UNIV OF NOTRE DAME!!! Want 2 thank Gator Country for all ur support,You guys are the best, but I had 2 do whats best for me," Hounshell posted on Twitter.

Hounshell, a three-star recruit, orally committed to Florida in August and was supposed to enroll early at UF for the spring semester. Things changed after Meyer resigned and former UF offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Steve Addazio took the head coaching position at Temple.

Hounshell decided to not enroll early, stating he didn't want to rush such an important decision.

He received an in-home visit from new Gators coach Will Muschamp and offensive line coach Frank Verducci on Sunday night — the first chance Hounshell had to meet the new coaches.

Following the visit, Hounshell posted on his Twitter that the Florida coaches were "first class" and "great people."

Notre Dame got the final word, though, as defensive coaches paid the 6-foot-5, 242-pound Hounshell an in-home visit Monday night.

With Hounshell now orally committed to Notre Dame, where he'll likely play defensive end, the Gators have just 15 commits with two weeks remaining before National Signing Day on Feb. 2, and only two commitments along the offensive line — Ridgefield (Conn.) High tackle Tommy Jordan and Dover (Del.) High guard Trip Thurman.
