In a meeting that took three roll calls and 45 minutes to get the 51 senators needed to establish quorum, Student Government kicked off the summer semester by approving all of Student Body President Ben Meyers' executive appointments.

"I really feel like we got the best of the best," Meyers said. "We have a cabinet that brings very diverse experience, which will be able to do great things for the Student Body."

Corey Portnoy, a senior political science major, will take over as the new Accent chairman. Adam Hewko, a fifth-year political science major, and Jeff Schnier, a senior accounting major, will co-chair Student Government Productions Senior Toni Megna will take over as supervisor of elections.

Forty-five other positions, including those for executive directors, cabinet secretaries, division chairs and cabinet directors, were also approved by the Senate.

The newly appointed students will serve in their offices for a yearlong term.

The Senate held a moment of silence and passed a resolution honoring the UF students and faculty who passed away during the spring semester, as well as a resolution offering condolences to the University of Alabama and those affected by the tornadoes that hit Tuscaloosa in April.
