In response to the eviction of Occupy Wall Street protesters from Zuccotti Park in New York on Tuesday, the American Dream Movement is hosting a We Are The 99 % nationwide rally today.

There will be at least 441 events today, according to MoveOn.org. The Gainesville protest is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at U.S. Rep. Cliff Stearns' office, 1900 SW 24th St., according to a MoveOn.org news release.

Protesters will also call on members of the Congressional Super Committee to protect programs like Medicare and Social Security, said Daniel Mintz, the campaign director of MoveOn.org.

"We are going to go in there and tell him demands," said Karen Epple, Gainesville council organizer for MoveOn.org.

According to a MoveOn.org news release, protesters around the nation will be pressuring members of the Congressional Super Committee, the committee making a debt proposal to submit to Congress, to focus on the 99 percent.

The committee's proposal deadline is Wednesday.

"We're here today to demand that politicians in Washington stand up for the 99 percent and stop their assault on the American Dream," Epple said in the news release.

She said one of the main pushes of the rally is to encourage Stearns to talk to his colleagues on the Super Committee to keep jobs and end Bush-era tax regulations.
