Newly elected City Commissioner Yvonne Hinson-Rawls has resigned from one city seat in preparation for another.

On Monday, Hinson-Rawls resigned from her position on the Gainesville Housing Authority Board of Commissioners in order to focus on city business. She will take her seat on the City Commission in mid-May.

In an email to Mayor Craig Lowe, Hinson-Rawls recommended a friend with an extensive construction background to replace her.

Saul Rentz, she said, has “vast knowledge” in the construction industry, has a lot of contacts in the building industry and is respected in the community.

Hinson-Rawls said in the email that she is looking forward to focusing all of her “energy and focus” on city issues.
