SG presidential candidates meet for lunch to discuss party collaboration

Student Government elections presidential candidates met for lunch this week to discuss collaboration between the Unite Party and the Students Party.

Student Body President-elect Tj Villamil asked former Students Party presidential candidate Alex Cornillie to have lunch with him at Copper Monkey on Tuesday to discuss bipartisanship in SG.

Neither knows if previous presidential candidates have met after elections were over.

“I’m sure they did,” Villamil said.

Cornillie said this level of collaboration between the parties doesn’t happen.

He said he will continue to teach the new Students Party senators the best way to work with the Unite Party.

“I know how important it is to get along,” he said.

Villamil said he wanted to stress that all students are Gators, regardless of the party they affiliate with.

Cornillie said at the lunch he expressed his ideas to make sure students in SG are appointed based on merit. He said Villamil agreed with him.

“I will be looking for the most qualified and experienced candidates,” Villamil said.
