Man found dead in apartment at The Estates

A man was found dead in his apartment by his friend at The Estates on Sunday night.

Police responded to a 911 call by a man who went to his friend’s apartment and found him.

Det. Bennie Smith said Gainesville Police responded to the call around 9 p.m. and found the 26-year-old man in his apartment. He died of an apparent suicide, Smith said, and the man’s family has been notified.

The man appeared to be living alone in his Building 6 apartment, but Smith said police did not know if the man was a student.

The man’s friend came by his apartment to check on him after he had not answered the friend’s phone calls.

Smith said the investigation is still open.
