Muschamp makes depth chart decisions, talks quarterbacks

After a preseason training camp filled with questions, Florida coach Will Muschamp had answers Monday.

‘The depth chart was released this morning,” Muschamp said. “I'm sure you've got a lot of great questions about that.”

While the unofficial depth chart provided plenty of answers, questions remain at quarterback and cornerback.

However, Muschamp gave an update on the quarterback situation. Last Friday, he said Jacoby Brissett and Jeff Driskel would split game reps against Bowling Green, but he gave no word on a set rotation. On Monday, that changed.

“[UF offensive coordinator Brent Pease] and I right now plan to play one in the first quarter, we haven't made that decision yet, and another in the second quarter,” Muschamp said. “Then, at halftime, (we will) make a decision on how we move forward.”

As for cornerback, Muschamp said Friday that since the Gators often play in nickel and dime sets, the four competitors — Loucheiz Purifoy, Cody Riggs, Marcus Roberson and Jaylen Watkins — are "all starters to [him]."

In fact, Muschamp pointed to the cornerback position as a blueprint for how Florida could be successful with two quarterbacks.

"Both guys are good players," Muschamp said. "I have said it before, we’re not overly concerned with the quarterback position and the talent we have there. We’ve got good players, no different than the cornerback position. I think we have really good players at that position, and we can play well."

At X wide receiver, Andre Debose and Latroy Pittman are currently tied for the second-string spot behind Frankie Hammond Jr. Coaches have praised Pittman, and Debose has the kick returner spot locked down, but Hammond seemingly has the edge based on his performance in fall camp.

"Frankie is our most consistent receiver right now," Muschamp said.
