Gainesville Fine Arts Association celebrates 90th anniversary

Local artists will celebrate the Gainesville Fine Arts Association’s 90th anniversary with a monthlong art exhibition, featuring paintings of multiple historical locations around the city.

Starting today, High Springs oil painter Karen LeMonnier will lead a team of artists who will travel and paint at the historic Duck Pond District, Matheson Museum, Sweetwater Branch Park and Pleasant Street Historic District.

The pieces will be displayed and for sale from June 10 until June 28 at the ArtWalk Exhibit at the Doris Bardon Community Cultural Center, 716 N. Main St.

Roz Miller, public relations chair for the association, said the pieces will be judged, and the winner will receive a $1,000 prize.

LeMonnier said she thinks the exhibit will promote the association’s role in bringing art to the community.

“Because we are a community of artists, this is a way that we can give back to the community by capturing historic places and by putting historic places on canvas for posterity,” she said.
