'Crazy Flavor Night' is actually pretty crazy, in ice cream terms

If you have yet to attend Crazy Flavor Night at Sweet Dreams of Gainesville, prepare for your mind to be blown. At this annual event, all the normal ice cream flavors are replaced with over 30 of the most unusual (and delicious) flavors you can imagine.

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday as National Ice Cream Day. Crazy Flavor Night is held in celebration of National Ice Cream Day, which falls on July 21 this year.

This was my first year attending Crazy Flavor Night, and my taste buds were not quite prepared. Some of the most interesting flavors included tahini, maple bacon, crunchy peanut butter curry, tequila sunrise, green tea ginger, lemon basil, avocado pistachio, Thai sticky rice mango coconut and pineapple jalapeno sorbet. There was even one called Southern Kicker, which is butter pecan with spicy pecans. Who would’ve thought of making a spicy ice cream flavor?

After struggling to make a selection, I finally decided on the peanut butter pretzel cookie dough and Mike’s Fountain of Youth, which was coffee ice cream with Snickers and peanut butter.  They were both solid choices, but I especially enjoyed the peanut butter pretzel cookie dough.

Luckily for those indecisive folks out there, you have the option of ordering a sampling of multiple flavors. The largest size is 30 mini scoops for $25. The smallest size is two mini scoops for $3.50.

There was a constant stream of customers in and out of the shop and a large crowd outside enjoying their ice cream, so I’d say the event was a success. I definitely plan on returning next year.
