Gators' comeback effort falls short

Texas A&M (16-8, 2-3 Southeastern Conference) evened its series against Florida (15-8, 3-2 SEC) with a 5-4 win on Saturday at Blue Bell Park in College Station, Texas.

The Aggies took advantage of a poor start from Gators pitcher Eric Hanhold, who surrendered five runs — four earned — in his four innings of work.

TAMU scored four runs on six hits in the second inning, but Hanhold stayed in the game, allowing only one more unearned run in his next two innings of work.

The Gators got back into the game with a run on a sacrifice fly from outfielder Harrison Bader in the third inning, a RBI double by catcher Taylor Gushue in the fifth and a two-run single by shortstop Richie Martin in the sixth.

Florida had a chance to come back, as freshman pitcher Brett Morales held Texas A&M scoreless in four innings of relief.

However, the Gators’ offense failed to give Morales a lead, going 0 for 9 in the final three innings.

UF and TAMU will play the rubber game of the series Sunday at 2:05 p.m.
