Stephanie Tofft bunts during Florida’s 4-2 win against Mississippi State on April 7, 2013 at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.

Stephanie Tofft shifted the momentum for No. 1 Florida in the fourth inning against Boston College on Tuesday.

Trailing 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth frame, the Lincoln, Calif., senior hit a double to bring home Bailey Castro to cut the lead to one. Sophomore Taylor Schwarz followed up with an RBI-single on a 1-2 count to tie the game at the next at-bat.

The Gators would take the lead from there and keep it as they topped the Eagles 7-3 at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.

“I thought for the most part, when the situations came about, we started to go with the pitch a little bit better,” coach Tim Walton said in a release. “We hit the ball well to the opposite field, and then got a good hit out of Stephanie Tofft in the fourth inning. It showed some good character, coming [back] from a 2-0 deficit in the fourth inning.”

After Tofft tied the game, Castro gave Florida (22-0) the lead for good over Boston College (8-6) with a 2-RBI single to left field in the fifth frame. The Gators added three more runs in the sixth inning off of singles by sophomore Kirsti Merrit and Tofft.

Senior Hannah Rogers won her ninth game in the circle, but the outing was not her best of the season. The Lake Wales native gave up a season-high seven hits in five innings while walking three batters and striking out five.

Haeger, who earned her first save of the season after giving up only one unearned run in two innings of relief pitching, threw 22 strikes in 40 pitches. At the plate, the junior was walked all four times she went to bat.

“The good part about that is, it’s four baserunners who have an opportunity to score,” Walton said. “That’s huge for us when we have that situation like it was. It just turns the lineup over.”
