The High Dive will host a sold-out St. Paddy’s Day show Thursday at 8:30 p.m., which will be packed with fans decked out in green to see Frank Turner.
Turner, an English folk singer and songwriter, is headlining, and Skinny Lister, Beans on Toast and Will Varley will also perform.
Turner is stopping in Gainesville on his way to Flogging Molly’s Salty Dog Cruise, a three-night, four-day festival aboard the Norwegian Sky, leaving from South Florida, said Pat Lavery, the promoter for High Dive.
“He chose to play Gainesville as his only stop in the southeast,” Lavery said.
In addition to the show, Bubba Luigi’s Roadtrip food truck will be serving corned beef and cabbage in the parking lot of the High Dive starting at 7 p.m.
Taylor Bartenope, a UF tourism, recreation and event management junior, said High Dive is one of her favorite places to go, and she is very excited to see Turner perform.
Bartenope and Jessica Trad, a UF statistics junior, said they purchased their tickets for $23 about a month ago.
“If I had waited another day, I wouldn’t have been able to get one because they sold out,” Trad said.
The resale tickets are posted for about $100 each on the event’s Facebook page, she said.
The St. Paddy’s Day show is the start of the rest of the weekend celebrations High Dive is hosting, Lavery said.
The third annual St. Paddy’s Day themed Original Gainesville Food Truck Rally will be held at High Dive compound Saturday. Admission to the rally is free, and the event will begin at 5 p.m.
There will be over a dozen local and regional food vendors serving St. Paddy’s themed food, including corned beef and cabbage.
The rally will also have live music featuring traditional Irish music and drinking songs. Music acts include Jig to a Milestone, Driveaway, Dr. John & the Medicine Show and Noah MacGinnis, Lavery said.
Trad said she plans to attend the rally as well as the show and is looking forward to trying something new at one of the food trucks.
“I feel like most food trucks combine different things we wouldn’t think of putting together,” she said. “It’s always an interesting experience.”
Both the show and the rally expect to have a large turnout, Lavery said. He encourages everyone to wear green to go along with the theme.
