After a failed gas-station holdup, one man threw a wine bottle at a cashier’s face, Gainesville Police said.

At about 10:45 p.m., Michael Cordell Shade Sr., 26, and Tony Lamar Fleming, 33, approached the clerk at a Citgo gas station, located at 809 N. Main St., according to a police report.

Shade demanded money at gunpoint while Fleming stood guard. The man refused to give Shade money and ran away, according to the report.

Shade then picked up two bottles of wine and threw them at the clerk, hitting him once in the face, according to the report. On Wednesday, an officer recognized the car used in the crime from surveillance footage. The driver and passenger admitted to providing transport for the attempted heist.

Police arrested Fleming on Wednesday on charges of robbery with a deadly weapon and conspiring to commit armed robbery. They arrested Shade on Thursday on charges of robbery with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and conspiring to commit armed robbery. Authorities took them to the Alachua County Jail, where they remain as of press time. Shade is being held on $1,000,000 bond. Fleming is being held on $800,000 bond.
