A suspect shot a male victim multiple times on Monday night.

Gainesville Police responded to reports of shots fired at Days Inn on SW 13th St. at 8:09 p.m., according to a GPD press release. Officers found Kurry Jackson, 37, inside his hotel room with multiple gunshot wounds and began giving him aid until emergency medicine services arrived on the scene.

Jackson was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital for treatment but died soon after, the release said. Further investigation revealed that a tall, slender Black male wearing a black hat was seen shooting into the victim’s hotel room from outside. Witnesses then saw him flee toward parked cars, according to the release.

Detectives aren’t sure which direction the suspect traveled in and are still investigating leads, the release. GPD Spokesperson Graham Glover told The Alligator further information can’t be released at this time.

UF also released six alerts about the incident.

Anyone with information should contact Detective John Pandak at: 352-393-7663.
