COVID-19 Update: Weekly trends stay the same as the Spring semester nears it final month

On-campus tests remain at seven-day average 1% positive rate

As April approaches, COVID-19 cases on UF’s campus continue at a 1% positivity rate after it returned March 12 .

Since March 15, nine UF employees and 109 students have tested positive for the virus at on-campus locations. Total positive tests amount to 9,270  since March 18, 2020 as of Monday.

The seven-day average for positive results has remained at 1% since March 12. The rate dipped below 1% rate for the first time in Spring on Feb. 25, indicating the semester’s lowest number of cases

Quarantine numbers have gone up and down in the last week. It started at 383 individuals on March 15, peaked at 434 people on Sunday, and fell to 411 on Monday.

On-campus quarantine occupancy has also increased, although it’s still low compared to the Spring high of 14% occupancy in late January. Occupancy has remained at 5% since Friday. 

UF Health Shands Hospital had 13.46% adult ICU availability (35 beds) on Tuesday, and North Florida Regional Medical Center had 35.42% (17 beds), according to the Agency for Health Care Administration of Florida. 

North Florida Regional Medical Center experienced its highest adult ICU availability since Sept. 14 at 39.58% (19 beds) on Monday according to historical data; Andrew O’Connor saved past numbers and coded the worksheet to update automatically.

A total of 68,230, or about 25% of county residents, have been vaccinated in Alachua County, according to the FDOH in Alachua as of Tuesday. Of these residents, 21,323 have received one dose and 46,907 have received two.
