Student who made death threat against TikTok star Josh Richards arrested

The 19-year-old turned himself into Alachua County Jail Friday

The UF student who threatened to kill TikTok star Josh Richards turned himself into the Alachua County Jail Friday.

Ryan Marin, 19, is being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without an intent to kill, according to court records. Marin was arrested after turning himself in to police Friday at 10:57 a.m. and was booked into Alachua County Jail, according to the jail. He was released the same day at 3:45 p.m. after his $5,000 bail was paid.

On June 15, Marin posted a photo on Instagram depicting “a UF guest speaker” who was bleeding with bullet holes, court records show. A fictional anime character was standing behind the speaker holding a gun. Marin portrayed himself as the fictional character by the name of “Kaworu Nagisa.”

UPD received a sworn complaint from Richards July 8 after he canceled his June 29 event where he would speak at UF Student Government’s Accent Speakers Bureau, according to court records.

Richard “suffered a major financial loss” after backing out of his $60,000 visit, court records show. Fearing for his life, Richards told police it was one of the deciding factors for canceling his original UF event, according to court records.

Marin’s arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 15 at 9 a.m., and he has since been issued an attorney.
