The Gators men’s basketball team added former Sacramento State redshirt sophomore guard Alex Kovatchev to the 2025-26 roster, the team announced Monday morning.

Florida filled its final scholarship spot with the acquisition.

Kovatchev appeared in 33 games as a freshman and averaged 5.0 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.

In his sophomore year, he appeared in just four games, averaging 8.5 points and 5.0 rebounds, before suffering a leg injury that ended his season.

The Perth, Australia, native played alongside Gators forward Alex Condon at the Basketball Centre of Excellence in Australia.

The tandem won a gold medal on Western Australia’s U20 team in 2023. Condon tallied 24 points and nine boards, and Kovatchev recorded 20 points and six rebounds in the title game.

Florida head coach Todd Golden spoke about filling the final roster spot in May after adding guards Boogie Fland and Xaivian Lee as well as forward AJ Brown earlier in the offseason.

“I think we have a great group right now, and my hope is that with this last spot, we’ll be able to find more of a developmental type of player, a guy that’ll come on and be happy to learn behind some guys,” Golden said. “So we're not going to rush. But if that turns out to be a European player, I'd be very happy with that as well.”
