Florida kicker Trey Smack was named to the Lou Groza Award watch list Monday. Named after Pro Football Hall of Fame kicker Lou Groza, the award is given each season to college football’s best kicker.
The senior kicker was on the list in 2023 and ended as a semifinalist for the award. That same year, he was named Lou Groza Star of the Week twice.
“We’ve got such a good track record here,” Smack said. “I just want to live up to that expectation because there’s been so many good Gator Greats just going to the NFL.”
Smack joins 29 other college football kickers on the preseason watch list. He seeks to become the first Florida kicker to win the award since Judd Davis won it in 1993.
“Judd made a deal with me,” Smack said. “If I won the Lou Groza Award, we’re both getting Lou Groza tattooed on our forehead.”
Smack finished the 2024 season perfect on PATs for the second straight year and 18 for 21 on field goal attempts as Florida’s primary kicker for all 13 games. He accumulated 4,717 yards on 76 kickoffs.
Smack ended last season with three successful field goal attempts and PATs at the Gasparilla Bowl vs Tulane to bring him to 44 extra point attempts on the season.
Semifinalists for the award will be announced Nov. 18 with the winner being decided Dec. 12.
