Tampa man found dead in Gainesville hotel

The Gainesville Police Department discovered the body of a Tampa man in a Gainesville hotel room Sunday night.

Police found Trevor McGinty, 30, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a room at Holiday Inn University Center, 1250 W. University Ave.

Erica Doll, GPD spokeswoman, said the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office asked GPD to track down a vehicle involved in the Tampa murder of 34-year-old Wendy Dusza.

The Hillsborough sheriff's office came to Gainesville with a warrant, and the GPD SWAT team responded at about 11 p.m., Doll said. Numerous attempts were made to get McGinty out of his hotel room, she said.

When they knocked on the door, they heard a gunshot, she said.

McGinty was found bleeding from the head from a gunshot wound, Doll said.

Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies originally discovered Dusza's body Saturday night. She was found in a storage shed at the Tampa condo where she lived with McGinty.

Authorities believe Dusza had been dead more than a week. Hillsborough sheriff's office said they don't know why she was killed.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
