A UF professor will accept a lifetime recognition award this March in Germany for his work in quantum chemistry.
Rod Bartlett, graduate research professor of chemistry and physics and director of UF’s Quantum Theory Project, was awarded the Humboldt Research Award.
Bartlett said he will receive about $96,000 to continue his research in Germany.
“It will partly be used to facilitate some collaborative efforts with German scientists,” he said.
The award isn’t the first for Bartlett. He was previously awarded the American Chemical Society award for theoretical chemistry.
Bartlett’s work allows him to travel around the world. Last summer, he was honored at a Quantum Molecular Mechanics congress in Switzerland in front of more than 300 scientists. He said with quantum chemistry, he doesn’t need to get his work done in a lab.
Jason Byrd, a post-doctoral research associate with the Quantum Theory Project, said he is excited for his colleague’s success.
