It’s about that time again, ladies and gents: the most wonderful yet dreaded time of the year. That’s right, it's finals season.
According to a New York Times blog, a level of ambient noise found in a place like a coffee shop enhances creative thinking compared with a quieter environment. For this reason, all of you studious kids should be hitting the books in a coffee shop on campus. Let’s be honest, most UF students will be mainstream and will study in places like The Hub, Starbucks, Panera or on the patio at Dunkin Donuts, but I am here to tell you that there are some hidden gems.
Coffee Culture, located on 13th Street. and Newberry Road, is one of my top choices. The dim lighting and the soft music nicely complement the buzz of people in the shop, and they also have a delicious assortment of treats and coffee beverages. Did I mention they always put their funny Wi-Fi passwords on receipts?
Volta is another great option, located downtown near 2nd St. Volta is very peaceful and modern and is much quieter than Coffee Culture, so if you are looking for that type of environment then this is for you. Although the coffee and tea prices are a bit high, they are one-of-a-kind and you will definitely get some quality study time.
Pascal’s, located on 16th St., is another coffee shop to be considered. Although it is known as a Christian coffee shop, they are very welcoming to any students who want to drink some java and get their school work done. This coffee shop is cozy and environmentally friendly, utilizing organic coffee from the local Sweetwater Organics Coffee Company. If you want a taste of home, go to Pascal’s.
