The northbound lanes of the 2100 block of Southwest 13th Street were closed Sunday night after the DNA bridge knocked a trailer off a tow truck near Archer Road, as seen in this stitched photo. The trailer had been damaged in a previous accident, said Sgt. Barry Kays of Gainesville Police. The Florida Department of Transportation deemed the bridge safe. The truck “was riding a little high, and he hit the top on the bridge,” said a University Towing employee.
The call came in the middle of the night, jolting Carlos Aguilar awake as he slept in a Beaty Towers dorm room.
An increase in pedestrian-related accidents last year and earlier this year forced Gainesville Police to step its enforcement efforts up — starting with jaywalking tickets.
