Bryan Griffin’s article “Individual action key to conservation” seems to strongly evoke his Republican role model, Bobby Jindal, the governor of Louisiana, and his limp response to President Obama’s State of the Union address. In his piece, he manages to convey such base ideas as “Liberals bad” and “Regulation bad.” OK, so you can’t blame him for paraphrasing the GOP manifesto. But beyond the standard partisan hackery, Mr. Griffin offers several gems that are simply too precious to ignore.

Sens. Andy Gardiner and Mike Haridopolos introduced two amendments to a bill in the Florida House of Representatives that would restrict women’s access to abortion. The bill and the two amendments passed in the House and Senate last week. Florida now waits for Gov. Charlie Crist to either sign or veto the bill, which has not yet come to his desk. Once it does, he has 15 days to decide.

Lee Alexander McQueen was more than a fashion designer. He was an artist who used the human body and fabrics as his canvas and treated fashion shows as theatrical performances. As head designer of the Alexander McQueen brand, he brought fantasy, abnormality, romance and darkness to the fashion world. Now, after his death on Feb. 11, the question is, what will happen to his brand? Can anyone take over and do what he did, or should his line be put to rest with memories of its greatness being the only remains?

As long as I can remember, we have had terrible political divisions in our country. The only time Democrats and Republicans seem able to work together are in times of crisis, like after the attacks of Sept. 11 or Pearl Harbor. The politics of our country, specifically of Congress, are inherently wrong and against what Americans want.

We’re all familiar with the classic celebrity catastrophe: Celeb is clean-cut. Celeb makes fatal mistake. Celeb apologizes. But what comes after that is a bit hazy. As the adoring fans, we either hold our grudges until the celeb morphs into a has-been, or we forgive and forget. I’m here today to make a case for a current crossroads the public has arrived at: Either forgive Chris Brown or condemn him to Pop Culture Hell.

This is in response to Desi Krell’s letter to the editor on Friday, “T-shirt displays offensive messages.” As a supporter of feminist causes, I’m a little more than embarrassed to see that you’ve chosen an establishment that is so non-threatening toward women to attack and boycott. The T-shirt in question shows a woman wearing underwear, which you failed to mention, implying that she was nude. You also completely ignore the fact that the shirt is mocking tentacle porn, which was created in Japan.

On Tuesday night, The Laboratory, a local bar/cafe on University Avenue, unveiled its new promotional T-shirts. One of the T-shirt designs was offensive and misogynistic, portraying a woman’s buttocks (her face was not shown) as she was entangled in tentacles. The accompanying caption read, “The Laboratory: more fun than a night in Japan!”
