The UF Student Government Judiciary Committee failed half the legislation members debated Sunday.
So there I was in Tigert Hall, waiting, watching and livestreaming (of course). It was time for the annual local fee committee meeting. The committee recommended fee increases to help support the Disability Resource Center, Dean of Students Office and Student Government. The University Athletic Association had its proposal voted down. The Counseling & Wellness Center did not submit a proposal, as it is still in the process of hiring new counselors.
UF students may see an increase in fees in the 2019-2020 school year.

Just over a year ago, The Alligator reported on a fateful meeting in which Student Government officials voted against a proposal to provide permanent funding for new counselors at the Counseling and Wellness Center, igniting a conflagration of student outcry.
It all started with a painfully true quip from the senior class president: “I didn’t even know we had a Student Government Twitter account.” The offhand remark drew chuckles from the Student Senate, because we all knew of the sad state of our social media.
Last Tuesday night was interesting. After the last Student Government election, as is the norm, the new Senate elected new Senate leadership.

This fall’s election has 50 candidates run on Impact Party's ticket and 43 candidates ran under Inspire Party's ticket, according to a list of candidates provided by Supervisor of Elections Henry Fair. This election more contested seats than Fall 2017 elections when 42 seats had multiple candidates.
Students sit at voting stations at the Marston Science Library computer lab polling location and cast their votes for last Fall's Student Government elections on Sept. 25. Marston is one of several locations students can vote at on Wednesday.
