The first Democratic presidential debate concluded Thursday night with 10 more candidates taking the Miami stage. Many of the issues discussed were similar to Wednesday night’s, such as gun control, healthcare and immigration. However, hostility was higher on the second night with former Vice President Joe Biden and 2016 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders on stage.

April is the beginning of the end for major pop culture phenomenons, namely “The Avengers” franchise (at least for now) and “Game of Thrones.” Both franchises have captured the attention of audiences across the globe and have facilitated conversations involving speculation and commentary. They have spawned parody skits, elevated people to A-list stars and created entire worlds people have spent hours recapping and analyzing. The franchises may have multiple spin-offs planned for both franchises, but we wonder if they will spawn the same fan response as their original predecessors.

Like every other young — borderline socialist — liberal college student in the United States, I was thrilled when I saw that Bernie Sanders had entered the 2020 presidential race. Today, the most passionate voters are either elated and beaming or distraught and anxious, perhaps even angry. The election has settled, but the dust certainly has not. The specter of competition still hangs in the air. We are sure there are some voters who woke up feeling a mix of disappointment and dread today. Whether the candidates you voted for won their race or not, you should feel proud that you cast a ballot. Most importantly, you should bear in mind that these results are not the end of the road for your cherished political causes. We urge our readers to stay vigilant, informed and engaged and to stay empathetic to their fellow Americans. This cannot be the winner’s moment to gloat and relish in victory. Our civic culture and common American bond depend on it.

Earlier this week, United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley announced that she plans to resign from her position at the end of the year. For President Donald Trump, her future departure means the loss of one of the highest-ranking women in his administration. This is an unfavorable blow to an administration already ridiculed for appointing a Supreme Court Justice accused of sexual assault.

There are certain moments in college when you feel an inexplicable gladness, when you realize you are living the “college experience.” Friends feel it when they pay the bill at a restaurant but stay seated for another hour, lost in conversation. Fans feel it on Saturdays in The Swamp, when they look around at 90,000 people united around the same cause, and their adrenaline spikes.
