Chrissy Sedgley, the director of operations at the Alachua County Humane Society, and Margot DeConna, the director of development, hold Bernard and Louie, 3- to 4-month-old jindo mixes inside the examination rooms at the shelter on Jan 16. DeConna said, originally, she thought the two dogs might need time to be socialized before being adopted, but after seeing them, DeConna said the dogs might get adopted sooner. “I think they’re going to be highly, highly adoptable,” she said.

Corrine Gurry, who has lived in Daytona Beach for about four and a half years, holds a boogie board and an “open” sign she found as she surveys the damage caused by Hurricane Matthew on Friday. Gurry said the sand dunes, which ran for miles on Daytona Beach, were all swept away by the storm surge. “Holy moly oly,” she said while walking on the boardwalk.

The roof tiles from this business at the corner of Butler Boulevard and North Atlantic Avenue in Daytona Beach were ripped off by the strong winds caused by Hurricane Matthew on Friday. For hours, the wind consistently blew at 35 mph with wind gusts at about 90 mph, causing extensive damage.
