A Gainesville woman has been arrested on a charge of felony attempted murder after she attacked her partner with a meat cleaver during an argument, according to the arrest report. Dasani Johnson attacked her partner, Anterio Jackson, during the early hours of Nov. 30. The 23-year-old thought Jackson was having an affair, as he was out late with his brother at a bar, according to the arrest report. When Jackson arrived home around 4 a.m., they started arguing, leading him to go to a different room to get away from Johnson, according to the arrest report. Johnson followed Jackson into the room with a meat cleaver from the kitchen, the arrest report said. Johnson initially told deputies she only meant to “scare” him with the meat cleaver and “only lightly swung” it, according to the arrest report.Johnson later told deputies she swung it at him “multiple times,” the report said. Jackson then went to the bedroom where he kept his handgun and shot it off to scare her, he told deputies. Johnson told police she wasn’t trying to kill him, but thought he might die after seeing how much blood he was losing. She did not take any steps to get him medical assistance, according to the report. Multiple neighbors called the police after hearing the gunshot. Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Deputies arrived at the Park Lane Apartments complex in Southwest Gainesville around 4:30 a.m., according to the report. ACSO also received a call from Jackson’s sister saying her brother had been shot and stabbed, the report noted. When deputies arrived, they found Jackson slipping in and out of consciousness with a severe cut on his wrist that was bleeding extensively, according to the report. Jackson was taken to UF Shands where he was sedated. Deputies found Johnson in the same apartment, but she refused to leave. She had a “large amount of blood” on her and an injury to the back of her head. She was taken to a different hospital, according to the report. The court documents show, as of Tuesday, she was still in the hospital. A neighbor gave deputies a video where the two can be heard arguing in the background with a gunshot following. There was blood on the floor in multiple rooms throughout the apartment. A bullet casing and meat cleaver were found in the bedroom. Contact Alexa Ryan at aryan@alligator.org.
