On Trend, On a Budget: Best Overall

As it’s the last “On Trend, On a Budget” column of the summer, I figure I’ll leave you with one of the most predominant trends of the sunshine season. Let’s pull back the door to the arsenal of style – wide enough to climb over the jelly sandals, reach past the skorts and Gandalf hats, and head for the big guns.

The Starving Gator: Super-sized subs

Hogan’s will always hold a special place in my heart because it was the first restaurant I fell in love with in Gainesville. Years before I became a student, my uncle– a proud Gator alumnus and an avid Gator football fan– told my family about this great sandwich shop he found in Gainesville. All it took was one bite of one of their sandwiches and I was hooked. To this day it remains one of my favorite restaurants in Gainesville and one of my regular places to head for lunch.

Bleacher Creatures: Top 5 centers in the NBA

The center position has changed drastically over the last few years. Gone are the days of lumbering big men strictly posting up and patrolling the paint. Nowadays, there is much more emphasis placed on centers who are mobile and can spread the floor with their shooting or passing.

Gainesvillista: LWD

Every girl has heard the term LBD (little black dress). The little black dress has been a staple in every woman's wardrobe forever.  Name one girl who does not own one; I bet you can't. The LBD is not only a classic wardrobe staple, it can make anyone look chic.

Bleacher Creatures: 2014 Gator football schedule breakdown part 1

The 2013 Gator football season was one of the most disappointing in recent memory as the team went 4-8 and ended the year on a seven game losing streak. Now the 2014 campaign lies just a month away presenting an opportunity for the Gators to earn back the respect of both the SEC and the entire country. This is a make or break season for fourth year head coach Will Muschamp, who will most likely be out of a job if the Gators underachieve for the second year in a row.

FYE: What you should know about American Horror Story; Freak Show so far

The CEO of FX, John Landgraf, recently spoke about the upcoming new season of the show American Horror Story titled Freak Show. The new season follows performers at a carnival freak show, as the title reveals. Landgraf has said that American Horror Story's seasons have alternated between "brash and campy" like in the most recent season, Coven, and "dark and brooding" like in the previous season Asylum. Freak Show, he said, is a combination of both types. It will have some humor in it, but will also have a dark feeling to it. If you are new to American Horror Story, each season is a completely different theme and story, but most of the time the same actors come back to play different characters with some new additions to the cast as well; good news if you've never seen the previous seasons because you can jump right in and you haven't missed anything! This type of show is typically called an anthology. So, for those of you that are excited for Freak Show, here's what we know about it so far.

This Week in Social Justice: Transcending the binary part 2

In part one of this series on trans issues I discussed appropriate and inappropriate terminology to use or avoid when talking about trans issues and/or about trans people. Today, let’s focus on two major issues trans people face that cisgender people (people who identify with the gender with which we were assigned at birth) find ourselves privileged enough to avoid. As with part one, this is not an exhaustive list for there are, sadly, many other issues to be accounted for.
